Payment dates for the PFD 2025 will be announced after defining the amount. Historically, deposits are in the same month and we already know the approximate date Annually, a stimulus check program sends payments to more than 600,000 permanent residents of a state in which oil industry profits are shared.

The Permanent Fund Dividend Program (PFD) annually distributes resources to eligible Alaska residents. Financed by oil revenues, the fund seeks to benefit current and future generations. According to the Alaska Department of Revenue – Permanent Fund Dividend, eligibility requires continuous residence and absence of serious convictions.

Stimulus checks of up to $3,900 have been proposed

The application process for 2025 closed on March 31, with online and in-person options to apply in Anchorage and Fairbanks, while in Juneau, due to the Seward’s Day holiday, physical drop boxes were set up. It is estimated that the number of people who applied for the benefit will be similar to the 600,000 in previous years.

As of May 9, 2025, the final amount of the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) has not yet been defined. The state legislature, which began on January 21, will conclude on May 21. PFD proposals vary significantly due to budget tensions.

Governor Mike Dunleavy has proposed a payment of $3,900 per person, but Alaska Public Media warns that this figure has little viability, since it would imply an additional expenditure of $1.5 billion.

A formula recently used by various analysts estimates that 25% of the fund’s annual withdrawal can be made, which would result in a PFD of $1,400. However, the Senate Finance Committee on May 2 suggested an amount of $1,000, the lowest in five years adjusted for inflation. This figure seeks to reduce the state deficit that has been increasing in recent years, and use part of the PFD funds to close it.

The House of Representatives approved a payment of $1,400 in April, according to the same source. The lack of consensus between both chambers keeps the amount uncertain. Forbes mentions estimates of up to $1,700, based on the 2024 PFD, which was $1,702, although this figure is not official confirmation.

Is the payment date for these stimulus checks confirmed?

Payment dates for 2025 have not been set. Historically, deposits occur in the fall, after the amount is announced. In 2024, the payment was made in October, days after the September 19 announcement.

Some media have speculated that the payment may be made in May, but that month is not confirmed and it is more likely that the distribution of the checks will be made between September and October 2025. The dates will be defined once the amount that each eligible household will receive is confirmed.

PFD eligibility requirements to get the money

Criteria to receive the 2025 PFD include continuous residency in Alaska through 2024 and intent to remain indefinitely. The Alaska Department of Revenue also requires that you not claim residency in other states or have serious convictions. Applications had to be submitted between January 1 and March 31, 2025.

90% of applications requesting to participate in the program were completed online. Those who missed the deadline can appeal under exceptional circumstances, such as medical emergencies. However, subsequent adjustments are not permitted, according to current program rules.
