The Social Security Administration (SSA) projects that Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments for May 2025 will follow the historical distribution pattern based on dates of birth and specific eligibility conditions.
Although the official adjustments, such as the cost of living index (COLA), were announced at the end of 2024, the 2.5% increase in the amounts remains in force until December 2025. In April, the payments already ended on April 23, being the third of the groups accommodated by dates of birth.
SSDI payments for May 2025 are coming: the schedule confirmed by the SSA
By the end of 2024, there were 9.1 million SSDI beneficiaries registered, according to the SSA. By May 2025, a slight increase is expected, although there are no exact monthly figures. Factors such as new admissions to the program and eligibility reviews influence this number, but the lack of public data limits precision.
Funds are deposited directly into bank accounts or mailed, depending on the beneficiary’s choice. The federal agency recommends prioritizing payments through direct deposit into a bank account, since checks can be delayed, stolen or lost during postal service routes.
As explained by the SSA itself, beneficiaries will receive their deposits on three Wednesdays in May, depending on their day of birth. Exceptions apply to those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or who began collecting it before 1997, with advance payments on the first business Friday.
SSDI beneficiaries are divided into three groups for the delivery of funds:
- Those born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their payment on May 14.
- Those born between the 11th and the 20th will do so on May 21.
- Those with birthdays between 21 and 31 will access their resources on May 28.
- For special cases, such as SSI beneficiaries or those collecting before May 1997, the scheduled date is May 2. This adjustment responds to the fact that May 3, the usual day for this group, falls on a Saturday. SSA prioritizes deliveries on business days if the original date falls on weekends.
How much will you receive if you claim SSDI disability benefits?
The maximum estimated amount for 2025 would be $4,018 per month, according to SSA reports. This figure includes an increase of approximately 2.5% compared to the maximum of $3,822 recorded in 2024. If only that increase were applied, the payment would have been about $3,920, but the difference could be due to additional adjustments or credits accumulated for delayed retirement.
Although the SSA has not released specific data for SSDI in 2025, the average benefit in January 2025 was $1,580, suggesting a lower value for disability, as was the case in previous years. The average SSDI in May is estimated to range between $1,500 and $1,600, considering SSA statistical data.
