More than eight million New York state residents will receive one-time stimulus payments of up to $400, as part of an initiative included in the state budget valid through 2026. Governor Kathy Hochul introduced this measure, which also provides for the return of $2 billion to taxpayers. Additionally, the plan includes the expansion of the child tax credit and the provision of free school meals.

The initiative seeks to mitigate the increase in the cost of living. “The cost of living is still too high, so I promised to put more money in their pockets, and we did it,” Hochul stated. The amounts vary depending on income: married couples can receive up to $400, while individuals would get between $200 and $400, depending on their tax situation.

When will the stimulus check of up to $400 arrive?

Although Hochul confirmed the program, exact dates for disbursements were not specified. The state Budget Division detailed requirements, but residents will have to wait for updates. The measure coincides with tax cuts that will affect 75% of filers.

Those who qualify are those who meet the following conditions:

Tax refunds in Georgia: Requirements and processes to claim up to $500

Moving down south to Georgia, the HB 112 bill, signed by Governor Brian Kemp on April 15, authorizes one-time refunds of up to $500 with surplus funds. Kemp highlighted the goal of “giving money back to workers.” Applicants must have filed 2023-2024 taxes by May 1 or October 15 with extension.

People eligible for this stimulus payment are, and will receive:

To be eligible, you must have had a tax obligation in 2023. Partial residents or non-residents may also qualify, as long as they have met their tax responsibilities.

The Georgia Department of Revenue offers an online portal (gtc.dor.ga.gov) for inquiries. SSN, ITIN, and 2023 federal adjusted gross income are required. Currently, the site only processes verifications from previous years.

Refunds will be issued within 6-8 weeks of approval. The methods match the taxpayer’s choice: direct deposit or postal check. No additional procedures are required beyond the timely declaration.

Beyond those state stimulus programs, there are no nationwide programs confirmed by the Federal Government. There have been discussions regarding the DOGE dividend stimulus payments, but, so far, there are no advances on this proposal to deliver $5,000 to eligible Americans. President Donald Trump and DOGE secretary, Elon Musk, said that they’ll consider the idea, but no advances have been made at the White House of the Congress.
