Thousands of SSDI (Disability) Payments Will Be Suspended — Yours Could Be Next

A breath of financial relief is coming for many taxpayers, with more than 8 million households set to receive a benefit many have been dreaming of. Without cumbersome procedures or additional paperwork, a direct stimulus checkc will arrive in mailboxes soon… and yours could be one of them.

This initiative comes in response to recent economic pressures from inflation and rising prices across the United States. That’s why the state ofNew York confirmed its first Inflation Rebate Checks for residents.

Inflation refund checks in New York: Who can receive this money?

The program, included in the 2025-2026 budget, allocates $2 billion to support more than 8.2 million people. Automatic payments will offset sales tax impacts during inflationary periods.

Three simple requirements determine your eligibility. First, you must have filed Form IT-201 for 2023. Second, your income must fall within certain ranges. Third, you must not claim your income as a dependent on another return.

“If you qualify for a payment, you don’t need to do anything; we’ll send you a check automatically,” explained the Department of Revenue through a spokesperson. “So don’t worry about extra forms; everything is handled internally.”

Singles and heads of household who wish to apply must have incomes under $150,000. For married couples and surviving spouses, the limit is $300,000. If you earned more than this amount in 2023, you unfortunately do not qualify, as this payment is primarily intended to support low-income households hit hardest by inflation.

Inflation refund payments could be up to $400

The amount varies depending on your family situation and 2023 income. If you’re single and earned $75,000 or less, your check will be $200. Those earning between $75,000 and $150,000 will receive $150.

Married couples filing jointly will receive $400 if their income is under $150,000. If their income is between $150,000 and $300,000, the amount will be $300. Surviving spouses follow this same scale.

For those filing as married filing separately or as head of household, the amounts are the same as those for singles: $150 or $200 depending on your income.

Physical paper checks shipments will begin in mid-October 2025. Due to the huge volume, distribution will take several weeks. There is no specific order by region: your neighbor may receive it before you.

The areas where payments will be distributed (and the number of beneficiaries) are:

  • New York City: 3.53 million checks
  • Long Island: 1.25 million
  • Mid-Hudson: 924,000
  • Western New York: 585,000
  • Finger Lakes: 513,000
  • Capital Region: 475,000
  • Central New York: 321,000
  • Southern Tier: 251,000
  • Mohawk Valley: 198,000
  • North Country: 156,000

Governor Kathy Hochul clarifies: “Checks will be mailed over a period of several weeks.” Tax offices cannot provide exact dates for individual cases. You’ll want to verify your current mailing address. If the information is outdated, you could experience delays. By the way, shipments will not be rescheduled due to address errors.

Money that goes back to taxpayers

The funds come directly from surpluses collected through the sales tax. So no new taxes are created, nor is public debt used. It’s a virtuous circle: what is paid is partially returned.

“Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized that these checks, along with other measures such as tax cuts and free meals, are intended to ease the financial burden,” the spokesperson explained. It’s all part of an integrated package that also provides, for example, money for food for schoolchildren.

Interestingly, the initial proposals called for a flat $300 for everyone. The final plan adjusted the amounts based on the economic circumstances of each group, a welcome change during the negotiations.
