Since the last cost of living adjustment (COLA) was applied in various Federal Government programs, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP benefits) have also increased for recipients throughout the country.

The tail adjustment is based on the cost of living, which is the amount of money a person needs to maintain a basic standard of living and not lose purchasing power in the face of inflation.  For the year 2024, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) increased the maximum allocations and allocation limits for most States and territories of the United States.

Not all states have the same maximum payment threshold because not all states have the same cost of living. The maximum SNAP benefits allocations for the 48 contiguous states (District of Columbia, Alaska, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands increased with the latest COLA adjustment. For a family of four in the lower 48 states, the COLA meant a benefit increase of $34 per month.
