Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive two payments in May 2025 due to a date adjustment for non-business days. The payment corresponding to June will be advanced to May 30, since June 1 is a Sunday. This practice follows the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) standard policy for dates that fall on weekends or holidays.

The explanation is as follows: when the 1st of a month falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, payment is made on the last preceding business day. In 2025, this directly affects June, whose payment will be executed on Friday, May 30, within the previous month.

Beneficiaries will receive double SSI payments in May

May 1, 2025 falls on a Thursday, a business day, so that month’s payment remains on its usual date. However, by bringing forward the deposit corresponding to June, beneficiaries will receive two payments in May: $967 for individuals and $1,450 for couples, according to the base amounts updated by the 2025 cost of living adjustment (which was 2.5%).

Months of 2025 with double SSI payment (because the 1st of the following month falls on a weekend or holiday) — In these cases, the payment of the following month is advanced to the end of the previous month:

  • Mayo (May payment + June advance payment)
  • August (August payment + September advance payment)
  • October (October payment + November advance payment)
  • December (December payment + January 2026 advance payment)

Months of 2025 with no SSI payment (because it was already received in advance the previous month) — In these cases, there is no payment on day 1 because it was already received at the end of the previous month:

  • June
  • September
  • November
  • January 2026

An SSA official with whom we spoke clarified that this double payment “does not represent an increase in benefits, but rather a readjustment of dates due to the particularity of the calendar.” No additional deposit will be made in June, since the deposit for that month was already paid in May. This situation occurs approximately once or twice a year, depending on the calendar.

The SSI program provides assistance to more than 7.4 million people in the U.S., including the elderly, blind, and disabled with limited resources. Payments are calculated monthly, and any changes in dates are communicated through the SSA’s official calendar, available on its website.

The same SSA officer insisted that beneficiaries check their my Social Security account to confirm exact dates and updated amounts. In addition, its hotline (1-800-772-1213) offers direct assistance to resolve questions about payments and schedule changes.
