Your Social Security Access Might Be Blocked — Here’s Why

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has already defined the distribution dates for SSDI (disabled workers’ benefits) payments for June 2025 well in advance. The specific allocation for each beneficiary depends directly on the day of the month on which their birthday occurs.

The SSA categorizes SSDI payments based on a specific date: May 1997. Beneficiaries who began claiming benefits before that month receive their payments on the third day of each month, and those who began claiming benefits after that month and year receive their benefits based on their date of birth.

SSDI payments of up to $4,018 will be sent this week

Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their payment on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. This date falls within the second workweek of the month.

Those whose birthdays are between the 11th and 20th will receive their funds on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. This payment is scheduled for the third week of the month. The system assigns this date based on the birth rate indicated.

Beneficiaries with birthdates between the 21st and 31st will receive their payment on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. This corresponds to the fourth week of June. The SSA applies this schedule consistently each month.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients received their June benefits on May 30, moving them forward from their usual first day of the month (one shift per weekend).

Average and maximum disability benefit payments

The average monthly SSDI payment is $1,581.88. This amount represents the typical income for most beneficiaries, although each beneficiary receives a figure that reflects calculations based on contributory work history.

A few beneficiaries (less than 4% of the more than 70 million recipients covered by the SSA) may even receive the maximum, which was set at $4,018 in 2025. These cases represent those with high incomes and significantly high contributions.

SSDI eligibility requirements in 2025

To qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits in 2025, applicants must meet two key requirements. First, they must have sufficient contributory work history, measured in “work credits” accumulated before the disability. The exact amount varies depending on the age at the time of disability.

Second, the individual must have a qualifying medical disability that meets the Social Security Administration’s legal definition. This condition must prevent the individual from engaging in substantially gainful activity (SGA) and be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. Previous, irrelevant work is not considered.

The applicant’s current income cannot exceed the threshold established for SGA. In 2025, this threshold will be adjusted annually for inflation. Those who perform paid work above this threshold are automatically ineligible, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

Disability must be documented through objective medical evidence issued by licensed professionals. Conditions that are partial, temporary, or solely related to unemployment do not meet the criteria. Recipients of SSI or Old Age Pensions follow separate processes with no automatic overlap with SSDI.
