Residents and businesses in 67 counties in Texas, affected by Hurricane Beryl, receive excellent news and important relief for their wallets. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced tax relief that will allow them a respite in these difficult times. A great relief for all those Texans impacted by this extreme climate event.

In mid-July, Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas (still a tropical storm before becoming a hurricane) and left devastation in several states in the southeastern United States. Tens of thousands of families lost their homes and property, and many of them now have years of additional work and effort ahead of them to recover from this tragic moment.

How Long Does This Tax Relief Last in Texas?

Taxpayers in numerous counties will be able to file their tax returns and make payments until February 3, 2025. This deadline includes both individual and business federal tax returns, and applies to those due dates that occur between February 5, 2025. July 2024 and February 3, 2025.

Specific details of the tax deferral in Texas:

  • Federal tax return 2023: Taxpayers will have until February 3, 2025 to file this return. It is important to note that payments that had a due date before July 5 are not included in this measure.
  • Quarterly tax payments: Estimated payments due on September 16, 2024 and January 15, 2025 are covered.
  • Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns: Estimated maturities for July 31, October 31, 2024, and January 31, 2025 are also included.
