Why there won’t be SSI payments in June: A calendar change explains it all

This is the latest update from the Social Security Administration (SSA) on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments distributed during the months of May and June. Through the second week of May 2025, SSDI disability payments issued correspond to May 2 and 14.

The first applied to beneficiaries whose regular due date is the 3rd of the month (advanced to the 2nd, because the 3rd is a weekend), while the second covered those whose birthdays are between the 1st and 10th. Both follow the rules for adjusting for non-business days.

How many SSDI payments are pending in May?

Payments for May 21 and 28 remain to be sent. The 21st corresponds to birthdays between the 11th and 20th, and the 28th corresponds to births between the 21st and 31st. These dates, established by the Social Security Administration (SSA), are governed by specific Wednesdays of each month.

In June, SSDI payments are scheduled for the 3rd, 11th, 18th, and 25th. The 3rd applies to cases prior to May 1997 or to beneficiaries with SSI and SSDI. The remaining payments depend on the date of birth, following the consecutive Wednesday pattern.

SSDI payments in May and June 2025, summarized:

  • Mayo 2025
    • May 2: Advance payment for beneficiaries who normally receive SSDI on the 3rd of each month (cases prior to May 1997 or with SSI and SSDI), since May 3 was a Saturday.
    • May 14: Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays from the 1st to the 10th (second Wednesday of the month).
    • May 21 (pending): Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays from the 11th to the 20th (third Wednesday).
    • May 28 (pending): Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st (fourth Wednesday).
  • June 2025
    • June 3: Payment for beneficiaries receiving SSDI on the 3rd of each month (pre-1997 cases or those with SSI and SSDI).
    • June 11: Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays from the 1st to the 10th (second Wednesday).
    • June 18: Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th (third Wednesday).
    • June 25: Payment for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st (fourth Wednesday).

Maximum payments for SSDI benefits in 2025

In 2025, the maximum monthly SSDI benefit at the federal level is $4,018. This amount applies to individuals who have had high and consistent income for at least 35 years and have contributed to the Social Security system up to the annual taxable limit.

Age does not directly affect the amount SSDI recipients can access. However, reaching full retirement age (between 66 and 67, depending on the beneficiary’s year of birth) automatically converts SSDI payments into retirement benefits: this means they become lifelong from that point forward, maintaining the same monthly amount.

What happens if you work while receiving SSDI?

SSDI beneficiaries can work under certain conditions and restrictions without risking losing their benefits. In 2025, the monthly income threshold for substantial gainful activity (SGA) is $1,620 for non-blind individuals and $2,700 for blind individuals. Exceeding these thresholds may impact eligibility for SSDI.

There are also programs like “Ticket to Work,” which help beneficiaries integrate into new career fields if the disability is permanent. This is intended to help the individual transition toward financial independence and stop relying on SSDI benefits.
