The first round of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments for June 2025 is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11. This disbursement is specifically for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any month and who began receiving benefits after April 1997.

This June 11 date is part of a monthly payment schedule established by the Social Security Administration (SSA). The following groups of beneficiaries are those whose birthdays are between the 11th and 20th of any month, who receive their payments on Wednesday, June 18; and those whose birthdays are after the 21st of any month will see their money arrive on Wednesday, June 25.

SSDI benefit amounts effective for June 2025

The average monthly payment for SSDI beneficiaries in 2025 is $1,581.88. This amount represents the central statistical figure calculated by the Social Security Administration. It applies to most disability benefit recipients across the country during this fiscal year.

A maximum monthly payment of $4,018 is available in 2025. This higher benefit is intended for individuals with extensive work histories and high taxable income during their working life. The maximum amount reflects significant contributions to the Social Security system.

If you also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you can expect a maximum of $967 for a single beneficiary, and up to $1,450 for a couple applying together. Both SSDI and SSI received a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase that will be in effect through December.

Mandatory requirements to access SSDI

To qualify for SSDI benefits in 2025, applicants must have sufficient work history. Generally, they must have accumulated 40 work credits. Of these, at least 20 must have been earned in the ten years prior to the onset of disability. Younger workers may require fewer credits.

The disabling medical condition must prevent the individual from performing substantial gainful activity. Furthermore, the disability must have persisted or be expected to persist for at least 12 consecutive months. Alternatively, it must result in the applicant’s death, based on established medical criteria.

Strict income limits are also a thing to have in mind when applying for SSDI. In 2025, the monthly threshold for considering an individual performing substantial work activity is $1,530 for non-blind individuals. For legally blind individuals, this monthly income limit increases to $2,550. Exceeding these amounts may affect eligibility.

SSDI recipients are eligible for Medicare

SSDI beneficiaries become eligible for Medicare coverage after receiving disability benefits for 24 full months. This two-year waiting period is standard for most SSDI recipients under current regulations.

There are exceptions to the 24-month waiting period for Medicare. Individuals diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) qualify immediately. Those with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) can also access Medicare without meeting the standard waiting period.

Medicare coverage for SSDI beneficiaries includes Parts A and B. Part A covers hospital services, while Part B focuses on outpatient medical services. Beneficiaries generally must pay premiums for Part B, although assistance programs are available.
