Dual Payments for SSI? Yes, that's coming on May 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirmed that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive two payments in May, August, October, and December 2025. This shifting pattern, which has been repeated since February, is due to delivery dates that coincide with weekends or holidays. The first payment for May will arrive on May 1, while the one corresponding to June will be brought forward to May 30.

According to the SSA calendar, June and September will be disbursement months for SSI recipients, as funds will have been distributed in May and August, respectively. In August, the regular payment will arrive on August 1, and the September payment will be issued on the 29th of the same month. A similar situation will occur in October, with a second deposit on October 31 to cover November.

Who receives double SSI checks in May 2025?

About 7.4 million Americans rely on SSI, and a third of them also receive traditional Social Security benefits. The latter will receive three payments in May: two from SSI and one from Social Security.

Those who began receiving support before May 1997 will receive their disbursement on the 3rd of each month, while the others will be governed by dates based on their birthday.

Additionally, to receive SSI, you must meet certain citizenship or legal residency requirements in the U.S. Not all immigrants qualify; Generally, you must be a U.S. citizen or belong to a specific group of eligible noncitizens (such as some asylees, refugees, or certain permanent residents who have worked enough).

The SSI program is not funded by Social Security taxes, but directly from the U.S. Treasury, and is intended to help cover basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

The following SSI dates, for the remainder of 2025, are as follows:

At the end of the year, you’ll get a total of twelve payments every year, one for each month. So, as you can see, when there’s a dual payment in one month, there will not be a payment in the upcoming month. And so on, until the calendar ends in December.

The maximum Supplemental Security Income (SSI) federal payment amounts for 2025, after a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), are: individual: $943 per month; couple: $1,415 per month; and essential person: $472 per month.
