Thousands of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP benefits) beneficiaries receive their payments in the month of May, according to the calendar in their respective state. As you know, each state has different systems for the distribution of these “food stamps”, depending on the size of the population of recipients, and the possibilities of their institutional structures.

In addition to the regular SNAP benefit payments each month (some states distribute in up to 28 days, because they have millions of beneficiaries, while others finish in a couple of days), the so-called “D-SNAP” payments are also activated from time to time, and depending on the need, which work when natural disasters occur. This week, residents of 13 counties in the state of Kentucky were affected by strong storms and will be able to receive extra money from these D-SNAP benefits.

13 Kentucky counties eligible for disaster (D-SNAP) benefits

Residents of 13 Kentucky counties affected by flooding and severe weather will be able to access Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). The counties are Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford.

The DUA is available to people who lost employment or income due to the disaster, including workers, the self-employed and those who planned to start working. Applicants must demonstrate that their primary source of income was directly impacted and do not qualify for regular unemployment insurance.

Farmers and the self-employed, generally excluded from traditional benefits, can access the DUA. The program covers up to 29 weeks of disaster-related unemployment. Applications must be submitted by June 23, 2025 through kcc.ky.gov or by calling 502-564-2900.

SNAP benefits distribution schedule in Kentucky

SNAP benefits are sent between the first 19 days of each month, based on the last digit of the case number. For example, cases ending in 0 receive funds on May 1; in 1, on May 3, and so on until May 19 for digit 9.

Households must report changes such as entry or exit of members and financial variations (income, rent, savings) twice a year. Changes such as exceeding income limits, reduced work hours for adults without disabilities (ABAWD), or lottery winnings must be reported within 10 days.

How do I replace my EBT/SNAP card if I lose it or it is stolen?

To replace a lost or stolen EBT card, recipients should call 1-888-979-9949 in Kentucky. In cases of electronic theft (such as skimming), it is possible to request a refund if it occurred after October 2022. The process includes changing the PIN and reporting the incident immediately.

Those who suffered theft of benefits should contact the Kentucky EBT line to initiate claims. States evaluate each case, and refunds depend on local policies. Quick verification increases the chances of recovering funds.
