California Residents Could Apply for $9,000 Stimulus Payments – Eligibility Criteria and More to Know

In just a few days the call for registration opens to residents in the city of Pomona, California, to receive up to $9,000 in payments for 18 months. The City of Pomona Household Universal Grants Pilot Program (Pomona HUG) there will be enrollments for a total of 600 eligible applicants randomly selected by lottery.

But not all will receive stimulus payments of $500 per month for 18 months: the lucky ones will be 250, and the remaining 350 will still receive a payment. This will be the so-called control group, who will be given a stipend of $20 per month for 18 months, the same span as the other group.

Eligibility Requirements for the $9,000 in Stimulus Payments

All program participants, both those who receive $500 and those who receive $20, must participate in surveys provided by the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). For each completed survey they will be paid an extra bonus of $50.

.The selected applicants participating in this ambitious pilot program, both those in the payment group and those in the control group, will also have access to additional resources through Los Angeles County, such as financial counseling, parenting skills and career counseling, among others.

In parallel, UCLA will conduct a study to help determine how income-based grants impact program participants. The UCLA research study is sponsored by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

Lottery Process and Selection of the Pomona HUG Stimulus Payment Program

All persons with a permanent residence in Pomona, California, may be eligible to participate in a lottery with which the 600 participants of the Pomona HUG program will be selected at random. Successful applicants will be assigned to one of the following groups on a completely random basis:

  • Paid: 250 applicants will receive 18 monthly payments in the amount of $500 each.
  • Control: 350 applicants will receive stipend payments of $20 for a total of 18 months.

Once the payments and analyses start being made to the participants, another lottery round will be held to randomly select a total of 300 participants, 150 from the group of those who receive $500 and 150 from the control group, who will access the aforementioned free resources.

The Pomona HUG program will begin accepting applications starting June 17th at 8am (PST) and will close registrations on July 8th at 11pm (PST). The lottery process will be on July 10th to achieve a total of 600 participants approved and officially included in the program.

Between July 10 and August 1, the participants will be reviewed and those who need to update their documentation to meet the requirements will have that period of time.

The first payment is scheduled to be made to the chosen participants on August 26. The payment will be made by means of a rechargeable debit card provided by the company MoCaFi. If you need help with the online application, please send an email to [email protected] or call 1-855-582-3973.

Requirements to Apply

In order to prove that your residence is in the city of Pomona, you can attach one of the following documents that contains your name and address: 

  • Recent utility bill (within 60 days)
  • Current lease or mortgage statement (most recent year)
  • Current property tax bill (most recent year)
  • Recent official government or city correspondence addressed to you, the applicant (within 60 days)
  • Valid and unexpired driver’s license/state-issued ID showing current Pomona address

You must also present an identification document, whatever it may be, any of the following: 

  • Valid driver’s license with photo (US or any of its territories)
  • Non-driver identification card with photo (from the US or any of its territories)
  • Passport
  • County of Origin ID with photo (outside the US)
  • US Permanent Resident Card
  • US Certificate of Naturalization (valid for 10 years after date of issue)
  • Learner’s Permit with Photo (US or any of its territories)

In Case of Parent or legal guardian

It must include both the full name of the parent/guardian and the child.

  • Birth certificate
  • Vaccine record issued by the Department of Health
  • Medical records
  • Court documentation
  • Guardianship documents
  • Tax return showing that your child is listed as a dependent for the last year
  • Childcare enrollment documentation that includes both your name and your child’s name
  • If you are currently pregnant and have no other children, you will be asked to verify your pregnancy during the application process.
