Recertification of SNAP benefits is a mandatory and periodic process for beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), both in the state of Florida and in the rest of the 51 states and territories where these food stamps are distributed. The recertification process is necessary since the program is obliged to confirm from time to time that the person or household that receives this money really needs it.

This is because the SNAP benefits program is intended for low-income families, and these funds are given to them on an EBT card that they can use to purchase approved products at authorized retailers.

How Often Do I Have to Recertify?

Most homes in the state of Florida have a 6-month recertification process; However, some cases may be different and that period may vary. Most likely, when they approved your food stamps, they told you what the recertification period is. If you are not clear about that, then contact the nearest office of the agency in charge of distributing and administering SNAP benefits in your city or state.

Your recertification deadline is based on the month you started receiving your SNAP benefits. For example, if you began receiving benefits in May 2024, your deadline to recertify would be November 15, 2024, if the time indicated was six months.

How to Recertify Your SNAP Benefits in the State of Florida

There are several ways in which you can carry out the SNAP benefits recertification process in the state of Florida. The first thing is to wait for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to send you a notification by postal mail or by some other means of contact that you have indicated in your application to begin this process. You don’t have to do it before that official notice arrives.

Once that happens, you can proceed in one of four ways to recertify:

  1. Online: You can recertify your food stamps online through the Florida Department of Children and Families CONNECT portal (https://www.myflfamilies.com/).
  2. By phone: You can call the SNAP beneficiary hotline at 1-800-333-9339.
  3. In person: You can visit a local Department of Children and Families office (https://www.google.com/maps/search/florida+department+of+children+and+families/@27.7376138,-88.6229547,6z/data=!3m1!4b1?entry=ttu).
  4. By mail: You can mail your recertification application to the Department of Children and Families.

Requirements for Food Stamps Recertification in Florida

The DCF will most likely ask you for a series of documents to verify and validate that your socioeconomic situation continues to qualify you to receive SNAP benefits. Among the documents that may be requested from you are (but are not limited to):

  • Recent pay stubs
  • Bank statements
  • Tax returns
  • Utility bills
  • Birth certificates for your children Remember to meet the recertification deadline because if you miss it or do not recertify at all, DCF will suspend your SNAP benefits immediately. If this happens, you will have to start the process from scratch, as if you had never been in the program before.
