When Will Your IRS Tax Refund Arrive? Important Dates and What to Do If It’s Delayed

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP benefits, formerly referred to as food stamps, is one of the federal initiatives aimed at preventing hunger or malnutrition in needy families across the United States. Every month, it continues to be an economic lifeline for millions of families who rely on these funds to make ends meet.

As you may know, the funds come from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), but they are not administered directly from there. Instead, each state decides how to manage these funds locally. Thus, each state finds the most effective way to distribute this money within its territory, also identifying the specific needs of its populations.

We are in the last days of May, and the participating states and territories are preparing to begin distributing benefits in June 2024. A new payment schedule starts on the 1st of the month in most states, with other states starting later, on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, or even the 10th. Below, you will find the list of states and territories that distribute SNAP benefits, along with the start and end dates for each payment schedule in June 2024.

The Maximum Food Stamps Benefits You Could Get Next Month

The maximum amount a household can receive in 2024 from SNAP benefits in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., until the end of September, depends on the number of people in the household.

For example, a single person can receive up to $291 per month in benefits, while a household of two people can claim up to $535. If the household has three members, the maximum amount of benefits is $766 per month. A household of four, such as a typical American family with two adults and two children, can receive up to $973 per month.

A household of five can receive $1,155, and a household of six can receive up to $1,386. If the household has seven or eight members, they can receive a maximum of $1,532 and $1,751, respectively.

Keep in mind that SNAP benefits are not intended to replace a household’s total income or cover all costs. For instance, a monthly payment of up to $93 for a family of four breaks down to a total of $8 per day per person, which is unlikely to cover all nutritional needs and must be supplemented with other resources.
