Social Disability Security (SSDI) will maintain its payment schedule for April 2025 for another month, as confirmed by official sources from the Social Security Administration (SSA). Beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of each month will receive their funds on April 23, as established by the calendar based on dates of birth.
No widespread delays have been reported for that date, according to data from the SSA itself, but what is certain is that the other two groups will have to wait until the second and third Wednesday of May to see a new deposit in their bank accounts.
Payment of SSDI benefits confirmed for next Wednesday
The payment system divides beneficiaries into three groups. Those born between the 1st and the 10th get paid on the second Wednesday of the month (April 9), while those born from the 11th to the 20th will get paid on the third Wednesday (April 16). The absence of federal holidays in April ensures there will be no institutional disruptions, according to FederalPay.org.
Although the schedule is in effect, specific situations may delay the deposit for certain beneficiaries. Issues such as previous overpayments or changes in eligibility criteria are factors that the SSA evaluates on a case-by-case basis. These situations, however, are not linked to specific groups or the recent legislation passed.
Some beneficiaries will receive an “extra bonus” on their Social Security payments
The Social Security Fairness Act, enacted in January 2025, seeks to correct disparities in benefits for retirees with pensions not covered by the system, such as public employees. However, its impact on SSDI beneficiaries is limited. According to Harris Disability Lawyers, SSDI is calculated based on work history under Social Security, not outside pensions.
Still, about 3.2 million people with dual eligibility (SSDI and uncovered pensions) will see increases retroactive from January 2024. These adjustments, processed automatically from March 2025, will not affect the regular April 23 payment. The SSA clarified that complex cases will have until November 2025 to be updated, without altering the current schedule.
Some beneficiaries with certain characteristics who receive SSDI and have pensions from jobs not subject to Social Security, such as firefighters or teachers, will see an increase in their monthly payments starting in April. This adjustment derives from the elimination of clauses such as the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), which previously reduced its benefits.
Some beneficiaries have been reporting increases of up to $1,000 in their payments, while others received retroactive payments of more than $6,000: this does not mean that they will receive an extra $6,000 each month, but rather it is money that was stopped being paid to them since this controversial law was passed and was returned to them retroactively.
