Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments for April 2025 will follow, as usual, a schedule based on the beneficiaries’ date of birth, as confirmed by the Social Security Administration (SSA). The transfers will be distributed on three Wednesdays, two of which have already passed: April 9, 16 and 23, with exceptions for special cases for those beneficiaries who claimed benefits before May 1997 (there are few who still receive them, but they are there).
The average amount for disabled workers will be $1,580 per month in April 2025, while those with a spouse or children will receive an average of $2,826. The maximum benefit will reach $4,018, adjusted for a 2.5% cost of living (COLA) increase, effective January 2025.
When do the new SSDI disability benefit payments arrive?
Direct deposits will be processed starting at 12:01 a.m. of each assigned date. For delays, the SSA recommends contacting the bank first and then their help lines: 1-800-772-1213 (or TTY 1-800-325-0778). Physical checks may take up to three business days after the scheduled date.
Cases such as residency outside the US, concurrent receipt of SSI, or beneficiaries with state-covered Medicare premiums will receive their payment on April 3. Individual amounts depend on work history, including indexed average earnings (AIME) and age at time of disability.
The groups of beneficiaries who claimed their benefits as of May 1997 are distributed in this way:
- Second Wednesday (April 9): beneficiaries with birthdays from the 1st to the 10th of any month.
- Third Wednesday (April 16): beneficiaries with birthdays from the 11th to the 20th of any month.
- Fourth Wednesday (April 23): beneficiaries with birthdays from the 21st to the 31st of any month.
If you receive SSDI in conjunction with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your payment date will be the 3rd of each month, unless that day falls on a holiday or weekend, so the April deposit is already made. Then, the next disbursement will be on Friday, May 2, since the 3rd is Saturday.
The SSA recommends waiting 3 business days after the due date if you notice a delay in payment. After those three days, it is advisable to file a claim with the SSA, by phone, through Login.gov, or in person at one of their offices.
If you or any of your family members receive payment from Veterans Affairs (also known as VA Benefits), the payment arrives on the 1st of each month, with the next one being May 1. However, last March’s payment was sent on April 1, so these citizens have just received their monthly benefit.
