SSI beneficiaries won’t get any payment in June 2025: Why next is coming in July

Every year, the SSA sends a total of 12 SSI payments, but there are months with no deposit at all (that's weird...)

Your Social Security Payments Could Be Cut: Hundreds of Thousands to Be Affected

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will not receive a payment in June 2025, after a change in the schedule was confirmed due to a policy that prioritizes early payment arrival (to avoid delays and financial complications).

The Social Security Administration (SSA) handles not only these payments but also pensions for retired workers and their surviving family members, and disability benefits (SSDI) for workers who, due to a health condition, are unable to go to work.

When does the next SSI payment arrive in 2025?

Typically, SSI payments are issued on the first day of each month. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the SSA advances the payment to the last preceding business day. June 1, 2025, was a Sunday. Therefore, the June payment was issued on Friday, May 30, 2025. Due to this circumstance, recipients of this program received two payments in May, but will not receive one in June.

The next SSI payment is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2025, which will be the seventh of a total of 12 payments throughout each calendar year. This change only affects SSI payments. Social Security retirement, disability (SSDI), and survivor benefits are not impacted, as their payments are made on other dates (based on the primary beneficiary’s birthday).

In 2025, after the 2.5% COLA adjustment, effective until December, the maximum SSI amount for an individual beneficiary is up to $967, while for a couple applying jointly, the cap is $1,450 per month. A third payment category (somewhat obsolete, with few approved beneficiaries) is the “essential person” benefit, which corresponds to an allowance for beneficiaries who need someone to assist them with their daily tasks due to a disability or mobility issues. For this benefit, there is a maximum aid of $484 per month.

The SSA has sent 2.5 million retroactive benefit payments so far this year

The SSA has already processed more than 2.5 million retroactive payments. These relate to teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public pension recipients. Previously, these individuals were excluded from full retirement benefits.

Enacted in January 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act requires the SSA to adjust benefits for 3.2 million people. The adjustments cover future and past benefits. As of May 27, the agency had completed 90% of this workload.

The payments benefit those who were subject to two now-eliminated federal policies: the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). The law allows for retroactive payments back to January 2024. December 2023 was the last month for the WEP and GPO.

The SSA began issuing retroactive payments on February 25, 2025. According to the agency, beneficiaries were to receive this lump sum payment by the end of March 2025. The deposit will be made into the bank account on file with the SSA.

Regarding the new monthly benefits, most eligible individuals were expected to see increases starting in April. There is a one-month delay in Social Security payments. Therefore, April payments reflected the March benefit.

The SSA previously indicated that many Americans would wait a year or more. Although automation has sped up payments, complex cases require manual processing. These cases will take longer, according to the agency’s website.

A spokesperson mentioned approximately 200,000 cases that could not be processed due to automation. The SSA expects to update all beneficiary records by November 2025. Eligible beneficiaries without payment can check their status at www.ssa.gov/myaccount.

Regarding your SSI benefits, you can also call 1-800-772-1213 to confirm your address and direct deposit information. “Making sure the SSA has the correct information allows you to receive any retroactive benefits and your new benefit amount more quickly,” the agency says.
