Why There Was No SSI Payment in June (And Where Did Your Money Go)

Due to a particularity in the SSA's schedule, there was a change in the payments that confused some recipients

Typically, and we’d say virtually always, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends payments to more than 70 million beneficiaries correctly and on time, and delays or problems are rarely reported for these American citizens and families who rely heavily on this money to pay all of their living costs.

However, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients should have received their monthly payment on June 1, 2025, but that didn’t happen. But don’t worry because (spoiler alert) the money didn’t disappear or anything like that.

June 1, 2025, fell on a Sunday, a non-working day for the SSA and other federal agencies. Therefore, the June deposit was made early on Friday, May 30. This change in the calendar does not imply a loss of the monthly benefit.

The SSI payments: deposit dates, amounts, and more to know

In May, two SSI deposits were recorded. The first, on May 1, corresponded to the regular benefit for that month. The second, on May 30, was the advance payment for June, so the next payment to expect is confirmed for July 1. However, there will be no change in that month because the 1st falls on a Tuesday.

The official SSA calendar details the following payment dates for 2025. The July deposit will be made on July 1. The August benefit will be delivered on August 1. The September payment will be made on August 29.

Upcoming SSI Payments in 2025 This September payment advance occurs because September 1st falls on a Monday. The law provides for adjustments when September 1st falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday. Subsequent deposits will follow the usual schedule.

For the remaining months of 2025, payments are scheduled for October 1, October 31, December 1, and December 31. The SSA confirms these dates in its official disbursement schedule.

How long to expect SSI payments: Federal maximums set for 2025

The Social Security Administration has set the maximum amounts starting in January 2025, after the 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) has been applied, an increase that exists to ensure beneficiaries do not lose purchasing power due to inflation.

Individual SSI recipients can receive up to $967 per month. Qualifying couples are capped at $1,450 per month.

SSI Maximums for 2025: Individuals considered “essential” can receive up to $484 per month. The SSA defines an essential person as someone who resides with the SSI recipient. This person must provide essential care without adequate financial compensation to be eligible for this payment.
