The Alaska Permanent Fund (PFD) annually distributes a portion of the income generated by its sovereign wealth fund, financed primarily with oil resources. This program seeks to share state profits with residents through direct payments, the amount of which varies depending on investment performance and annual legislative decisions.
The exact amount of the PFD for 2025 has not yet been made official. However, preliminary estimates indicate that it could be between $1,000 and $3,900, depending on the formula applied.
For example, if a split of 75% for the government and 25% for citizens is used, the dividend would be approximately $1,400. Instead, if the full statutory formula is used, the payment could be closer to $3,900.
How much have the PFD stimulus payments been in recent years?
The payment history of the PFD has shown fluctuating behavior in the amount delivered. Let’s see what the amounts have been in recent years:
- 2024: $1,702 (includes a base dividend of $1,403.83 and an additional energy relief payment of $298.17).
- 2023: $1,312.
- 2022: $3,284, which included a $650 energy relief payment.
- 2021: $1,114.
- 2020: $992.
When are PFD payments expected in 2025 and how to qualify?
Although not confirmed, PFD 2025 payments will likely begin in October, following historical patterns. In 2024, direct deposits were made on October 3, and physical checks were sent on October 26. A similar schedule is expected for 2025, with differences of weeks between both methods.
In 2024, more than 600,000 residents were eligible. By 2025, the number could be similar because there have not been very marked changes in Alaska’s population.
The requirements in 2025 are as follows:
- Continuous residence in Alaska throughout 2024.
- Intention to remain in the state indefinitely.
- Do not claim residency outside of Alaska after December 31, 2023.
- Absences not exceeding 180 days, except for legal exceptions.
- Minimum physical presence of 72 consecutive hours in 2023 or 2024.
They cannot be eligible:
- People with felony convictions in 2024 or incarcerated for certain misdemeanors during that year do not qualify.
U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and refugees may apply if they meet residency requirements. “Eligibility is rigorously verified,” according to the official PFD portal.
Applications for the 2025 PFD were received between January 1 and March 31, 2025, online or at designated offices. Those who did not apply in that period must wait for the 2026 cycle, which will open on January 1, 2026. Late applications are not accepted.
