By 2025, more than 3.6 million Texas families will rely on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, known as SNAP benefits, or food stamps by their former name. These are monthly payments for low-income families and individuals who need a little boost to put nutritious food on their tables every month.

In Texas, SNAP benefits are distributed every month between the 1st and the 28th, with two groups of beneficiaries based on the date they were approved by the program to receive payments. For households certified before June 1, 2020, benefits are sent between the 1st and 15th of each month. For households certified after June 1, 2020, the dates range from the 16th to the 28th of each month.

Households certified before June 1, 2020, are assigned a payment date based on the last digit of their Eligibility Determination Group (EDG). If you’re unsure of your payment date, there are several ways to confirm it:

Households certified after June 1, 2020, have another way to determine their payment due date. Their payment date is assigned using the last two digits of their Eligibility Determination Group (EDG).

If your EDG digits are between 00 and 03, for example, your payment date is June 16, and if your numbers are between 04 and 06, your payment date is June 17.

The maximum SNAP benefit amounts for both Texans and the rest of the 48 contiguous states (and the District of Columbia) range from $292 for one person to $975 for four people and a maximum of up to $1,756 for eight people. Families with more than eight people can expect to receive an extra $220 for each additional person.
