Born to a Hungarian and Catholic mother and a German Jewish father, Paul Newman has been one of the most prominent names internationally. However, the world had to say goodbye to the American actor in September 2008 due to lung cancer, after a long and important professional career with which he conquered the public.
Su relación con Joanne Woodward
One of the highlights of his personal life was undoubtedly his love affair with Joanne Woodward. Despite being considered one of the greatest sex symbols in history, in his posthumous memoirs he confessed that he was not really a great success with women.

This changed when he met his wife, Woodward, of whom he says, "Joanne gave birth to a sexual creature. We left a trail of lust everywhere, whether it was in hotels, public parks and rental cars."
The couple met in 1953, while working as understudies in the Broadway play 'Picnic'. Although Newman, at the time, was married to Jackie Witte, with whom he also had three children, the two began their love affair.

Drinking came between the couple
Not everything was wonderful between them, since they had to overcome many ups and downs that appeared in their relationship. Most of these were caused by the actor's fondness for drinking and led to fights that did not manage to keep them apart.
Regarding this, one of their daughters, Claire, said that their parents "had fights and that could be a drama, but they also fought a lot to stay together. They didn't pull away. There were times when they were very close, but they had to work very hard. In the end they were united.
Paul Newman's five daughters
His first marriage to actress Jackie Witte, gave birth to the first three children of the American actor: Scott, who died of an overdose at the age of 28; Susan and Stephanie. The first of them decided to follow in her parents' footsteps and, little by little, after working on Broadway and Hollywood, she established herself as a screenwriter, producer and director.
On the other hand, Stephanie has a life away from the spotlight and hardly anything is known about her. Those who know her tend to define her as a free spirit, a lover of painting and agriculture.
Woodward and Newman had three daughters
Likewise, his second marriage, this time to Joanne Woodward, also gave Newman three other daughters: Nell, Melissa and Claire. The eldest decided to devote herself to cinema, just like her father, debuting under the name of Nell Potts in the first film directed by Newman.
In the case of Melissa, she also began to enter the world of cinema, but later she dedicated herself to other jobs such as substitute teacher in a nursery school or as a horse trainer.
Finally, the youngest of the family studied law and, after that, she turned to show jumping. For the past few years, she has been working as a producer for successful Hollywood series.
After Paul Newman's death, caused by lung cancer, it is his five daughters who continue to keep his memory alive, for all those fans who do not want to forget him.
